How do I know if my whetstone is a soaking or non-soaking / splash-n-go whetstone?
Simple. Throw some water on the surface and watch it. If water is soaked in immediately, it’s a soaking whetstone. If the water just sits on the surface after, say, 30-60 seconds, it is most likely a non-soaking or splash-n-go whetstone. Another easy way to tell, is to place the whetstone in a bucket of standing water, and watch it. If air bubbles begin to form around, and rise from the whetstone - it is a soaking whetstone. If after 30-60 seconds, there are no, or very few air bubbles forming - it is a non-soaking whetstone.
